Chapter of the ACM was estabilshed in 1991 as shown in the Certificate.
The Founding Chairman, Prof. Dr.
Srisakdi Charmonman, joined ACM in the year 1963 when he was a Ph.D.
student at Georgia Institute of Technology, USA. Before he earned his
Ph.D. in 1964 in the field of Numerical Computations, which was a major
field of computing at that time, he became a founding member of the
Special Interest Group on University Computing Centers, later changed
to SIGUCCS. When he was Assistant Professor of Computing Science at
McMaster University in Canada (1964-1966), Associate Professor of Computing
Science at the University of Alberta in Canada (1966-1968), and Director
of Graduate Studies in Computer Science at the University of Missouri
in the USA (1968-1973), he served as Faculty Advisor for the ACM Student
Chapters. When he became a Full Professor of Computer Science at the
State University of New York (SUNY) in Brockport which is close to Rochester,
he became Seminar Chairman of the Rochester Chapter of the ACM. After
having returned to Thailand, Prof. Dr. Srisakdi Charmonman became the
Founding Chairman of Thailand Chapter of the ACM in 1991.

Chapter of the ACM is now situated at Srisakdi
Charmonman IT Center which was declared the Center of Excellence
in IT Education by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology.
The building has 11 floors with over 10,000 square meters and 2,000
computers. The second floor houses one of the largest computer and Internet
training room with 408 computers. The fourth floor has four computer
training rooms, one each for the blind, the deaf, the retired, and autistic
kids. The tenth and eleventh floors are for Assumption University TV
Station. The building is also the seat of the College of Internet Distance
Education with Prof. Dr. Srisakdi Charmonman as the Chairman of the
Board and Chief Executive Officer. The College is planning to offer
e-Learning to 100,000 students per year.
Thailand
Chapter of the ACM and related learned societies publish the International
Journal of the Computer, the Internet and Management (IJCIM) and organize
training classes and seminars regularly.
